Australia…
Cue images of long hazy summer days at the beach. Of relaxed people and an even more relaxed way of life. Australia has long been recognised as one of the most desirable places on earth to live - just ask the thousands of sun seeking tourists who come here each year.
Every major city in Australia has easy access to the sorts of lifestyle benefits you dream about on the Tube every morning. Lots of space, no traffic jams, stunning scenery, world class entertainment and more beaches than you could possibly imagine (over 10,000 of the world's best) all wrapped up in a booming economy that's showing no signs of slowing down.
And for families - especially those with young children- Australia is renowned for its safe, secure facilities and family-friendly recreational activities.
Many would say it's a dream holiday destination. Now with the career opportunities available through IBM Australia, the chance to live and work on the biggest island in the world has become reality.

Current Projects
Streamlining costs and improving efficiencies at Electrolux
The Electrolux Group is the world's largest producer of powered appliances for kitchen, cleaning and outdoor use. More than 55 million Electrolux Group products (such as refrigerators, cookers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, chain saws and lawn mowers) are sold each year in more than 150 countries around the world. That's about two products per second!
Operational cost cutting and improved efficiencies for staff were identified as critical goals for Electrolux, and key drivers to streamline document production; specifically the hard and soft print costs associated with it.
IBM initiated and managed a 'cost down consultative' arrangement. Immediately, the client benefitted by a streamlined document production solution - resulting in cost (and many other) efficiencies.
TV joins the digital age
Network Ten is one of Australia's three national commercial television broadcasters, with stations in each of the country's five mainland capital cities.
IBM is helping Network Ten in Australia to power into the digital age by implementing a digital content management system to enable Ten to store and manage television content (ie. video and audio) as data. This supersedes the current technology which is based on videotape.
The move to digital television and high definition formats has encouraged media companies, specifically broadcasters, to convert workflows to a digital and IT based solution. With the cut-over to digital television in 2010-12 in Australia, Ten needed to begin to upgrade its workflows to remove analogue tape.
Network Ten will have a central archive solution for its video data, a backup archive in case of disaster, enterprise-wide access to video & audio and the benefit of having its assets in digital format. Importantly, they will also be ready for the changeover to digital broadcasting.
Next generation communications
Telstra is Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company, with one of the best-known brands in the country. The company offers a full range of services and compete in all telecommunications markets throughout Australia, providing more than 10.3 million Australian fixed line and more than 6.5 million mobile services.
Telstra and IBM have announced they are combining strengths to accelerate the delivery of IP communications to Australian businesses.
The two companies have entered into a go-to-market alliance which will provide business customers with more options in the procurement and delivery of next generation network solutions and enable greater consolidation of IT and telco purchases.
IBM's experience and knowledge of IP communications, combined with Telstra's IP based network reach, will help Australian business customers connect, communicate and collaborate through the convergence of voice, video and data over IP communication standards.
The alliance, which reinforces IBM's role as a strategic partner to Telstra and a source of not only technology innovation, but also business innovation, will help Australian business customers connect, communicate and collaborate through the convergence of voice, video and data over IP communication standards.
Commbank to get even better with IBM
Since early 2003, IBM has been engaged with One of Australia's top tier banks, Commonwealth Bank, to develop the largest online banking site in Australia - all the while providing ongoing support and subsequent enhancements to the base product. During this time IBM's ability to consistently deliver high quality releases was recognised, positioning it well to deliver further enhancements.
IBM was therefore uniquely positioned to provide an integrated solution that leverages its technology and services capabilities, to provide both high quality client services and a competitive advantage for Commonwealth Bank.
The planned enhancements will deliver business benefits including richer functionality and an enhanced user experience that will allow Commonwealth Bank to further expand its client base.
IBM lightens the load for one of Australia's 'big 4'
IBM has signed a global deal to further enhance the Document Management System (DMS) it previously built with Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC). The project will port the DMS to a browser-based solution using Documentum's Webtop product. The solution is expected to be deployed in Australia, US, UK, Canada, Spain and several other European countries.
The Accounting industry in Australia has come under increased scrutiny over the last 5 years with the very public collapse of several Fortune 500 companies. This prompted the US Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) to implemented new regulations designed to control the industry - creating as a result a much higher risk burden.
Through the implementation of the Document Management System, IBM has facilitated the implementation of a new consulting engagement model, increased client responsiveness, enhanced risk management procedures - even reduced the fixed asset costs of the firm.
IBM will provide expertise in Complex Program Management, DMS systems, Documentum and Global Delivery. IBM's involvement will reduce project risks, reduce the project timeline and also reduce overall costs through the use of global delivery.
